Amed Travel Guide

Things to Do in Amed, Bali

A quiet fishing village on Bali’s east coast, Amed is famous for coral reefs, black-sand beaches, and slow village life. Here is our local guide to the best things to do — and how to end the day with a Balinese massage at Akasha Amed Spa.

Snorkel at Jemeluk Bay

Jemeluk Bay is the easiest place to snorkel in Amed. The coral is just a few meters from the shore, and you can spot turtles, clownfish, and reef sharks on a calm morning. Local jukung boats also offer short trips to nearby reefs for around 100K–150K per person.

Dive the Japanese Shipwreck

Just off the beach in Banyuning, the Japanese shipwreck is one of Bali’s most accessible wreck dives. It sits in shallow water and is also great for snorkelers. If you are not certified, several Amed dive shops offer Discover Scuba Diving experiences.

Watch Sunset at Amed Beach

Amed faces east, so the sun rises over the water and sets behind Mount Agung. The late-afternoon light turns the sky pink behind the volcano. Jemeluk Viewpoint and the beach in front of Sunset Point are the most popular places to watch.

Visit Tulamben & Lipah Beach

A short drive north brings you to Tulamben, home of the famous USAT Liberty wreck. South of Amed, Lipah Beach has calmer water and colorful coral gardens. Both make easy half-day trips from Amed.

Eat at Local Warungs

Amed is still a village, so the best food is often at small family warungs. Look for fresh grilled fish, nasi campur, and jukung-caught seafood. Many places sit right on the beach with your toes in the sand.

Recover at Akasha Amed Spa

After a morning of snorkeling or diving, nothing resets the body like a traditional Balinese massage. Akasha Amed Spa is a tropical garden spa in the heart of Amed, offering massage, facials, body scrubs, and flower baths. We are open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and closed on Nyepi Day.
